PA --- Casey Bennett tied her own school
record in capturing the women's pole vault
and Pat Henry and Kyle Casella each picked
up second place finishes for the men to
highlight University of Delaware
performances at the season-opening Jack
Pyrah Indoor Track and Field Invitational
hosted by Villanova and Haverford Sunday
at Haverford College.
Bennett,
the defending Colonial Athletic
Association outdoor pole vault champion,
captured her 11th career pole vault meet
title and won at the Pyrah Invitational
for the second straight year to pace the
Blue Hen women. Also highlighting the day
for Delaware was Brittany Wright, who
placed fourth in both the 55 meters (7.43)
and the 300 meters, setting a school
record in the 300 meters with a time of
42.49 - breaking the mark of 43.04 by
Elsbeth Bupp in 1985. Overall, Delaware
athletes captured 18 top 10 finishes.
On the
men's side, Pat Henry placed second in the
55 meters (6.49) and third in the 300
meters (36.39) and Kyle Casella was second
in the weight throw (44-10 3/4) and was
10th in the shot put (40-0). Overall,
Delaware athletes posted 16 top 10
finishes.
Also for
the Delaware women, Amy Miller was fourth
in the pole vault (9-0), Kaitlin McGowan
was fourth in the pole vault (9-0), Wright
was fourth in the 55 meters (7.43),
Kristen Collins was fourth in the shot put
(4-11), Stefanie Cronk was fifth in the
weight throw (37-4 1/2), and Kristen
Frustillo was fifth in the 55 meters
(7.48) and 300 meters (42.52).
Also for
the Blue Hen men, Chris Dixon was third in
the 55 meters (7.98) and seventh in the
300 meters (37.07), Dennis Spence was
third in the long jump (20-11 3/4) and
11th in the 55 meters (6.87), Andrew Lynch
was fourth in the shot put (45-6 1/2),
Brandon Swartout was fifth in the long
jump (19-10 1/4), and Hao Guan was fifth
in the weight throw (41-8 3/4).
