1,600 Meter Relay Team Win for Blue Hens
at Delaware Invitational

(January 7, 2005) -- The University of
Delaware men's and women's indoor track
and field teams hosted their first meet of
the season Friday night and posted three
first place finishes at the Delaware
Invitational at Delaware Field House.
Five teams
competed on the men's side in the
non-scoring meet with the Blue Hens
earning two first place finishes as
freshman Will Jurkowski (North Salem/North
Salem, NY) captured the 800 meters in a
time of 1:58.92 and the 4 x 400 meter
relay team took first place with a
clocking of 3:25.50. Overall the Delaware
men posted 18 top five finishes. In
addition to Delaware, Maryland, La Salle,
Delaware State, and Temple also
competed.
On the
women's side, seven teams competed with
the Blue Hens picking up a first place
finish in the 800 meters as freshman
Colleen O'Brien (North Hunterdon/Lebanon,
NJ) won in a time of 2:24.73. Delaware
registered 11 top five finishes. In
addition to Delaware, also competing were
Delaware State, La Salle, Coppin State,
Navy, Temple, and Cabrini.
Also for
the Delaware men, Mike Yost (Lake
Forest/Felton, DE) placed second in the
shot put (49 1/4) and the weight throw
(51-9 3/4), Jake Cohen was second in the
pole vault (12-6), Chris Dixon was second
in the 400 meters (50.50) and ran the last
leg of the winning 4 x 400 meter relay
(50.50), Roger Brown was second in the 60
meters (7.05), Matt Arbaugh was third in
the pole vault (12-6), Phil Smiley was
third in the 800 meters (2:01.73) and ran
a leg of the winning relay, Charlie
Williams was third in the 400 meters
(51.31) and ran a leg of the winning
relay, Hao Guan was third in the weight
throw (42-2 1/4), and Pat Henry was third
in the 200 meters (23.00) and fourth in
the 60 meters (7.14).
For the
Delaware women, O'Brien also placed second
in the mile run (5:16.90), Brittany Wright
was second in the 60 meters (7.89) and
third in the 200 meters (26.05), Kristen
Frustillo was second in the 200 meters
(26.04) and fifth in the 60 meters (8.01),
and Kate Klim was fourth in the 3,000
meters (11:03.89).
The
Maryland men captured seven first place
finishes on the night as Phil Hess won
both the mile (4:24.47) and 1,000 meters
(2:34.83) while Delaware State won three
events and LaSalle, Delaware, and Temple
each won two.
On the
women's side, Maryland captured eight
first place finishes as Lynn Hernandez won
the long jump (19-8 3/4) and the 200
meters (25.47). Navy won four events while
Delaware, Delaware State, La Salle, and
Coppin State each won one.
