BOSTON
-- University of Delaware senior Patrick Riley
(St. Mark's/Newark, DE) set a school record in placing
12th in the 5,000 meters and the Blue Hen women's 4 x
400-meter relay team established a school record with an
eighth place finish to highlight Blue Hen performances at
the IC4A men's and ECAC women's indoor track and field
regionals this past weekend at the Reggie Lewis Track and
Field Center.
The meet was the final indoor performance
of the year for both Delaware teams. Manhattan captured the
men's IC4A team title with 60 points while the University of
Pittsburgh was the women's ECAC team champion with 62
points.
Riley (at right - Photo Courtesy of
TrackShark.Com) was the top finisher for the UD men as
he placed 12th in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:35.18,
breaking the school record of 14:39.19 set by Dave
Geesaman in 1998.
Also for the Delaware men, Roger
Brown (Albemarle/Charlottesville, VA) placed 17th in the
55 meters (6.56), Jerome Holder
(Woodbridge/Bridgeville, DE) placed 23rd in the 55 meter
hurdles (7.93), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Holder,
Charlie Williams (Powhatan/Powhatan, VA), Chris
Dixon (Hempfield/Manheim, PA), and Phil Smiley
(McKean/Hockessin, DE) was 22nd in a time of 3:18.75, less
than a second off the school record set in 1973.
Delaware earned its only point of the
weekend on the women's side where the Blue Hen 4 x 400 relay
team of Kristen Frustillo (Cardinal O'Hara/Newtown
Square, PA), Tyechia Smith (McNair/Jersey City, NJ),
Brittany Wright (Eastern/Voorhees, NJ), and Mandy
Stille (McKean/Wilmington, DE) placed eighth overall
with a time of 3:51.39. The team broke the school record set
earlier this season with a time of 3:50.27 in the
preliminaries Saturday.
The eighth place finish, which earns UD
All-East designation, was the highest for the Blue Hen women
at the ECAC indoor championships since the 2000 season when
Annemarie Quinn placed sixth in the high jump.
Also for the Blue Hen women, Casey
Bennett (Shelton/Shelton, CT) was 14th in the pole vault
(no height available), Stille was 14th in the long jump
(17-11 1/2), and Smith was 19th in the 400 meters
(58.17).
