Dodson Wins Mile for Blue Hens

Results 

BETHLEHEM, PA -- Freshman Brad Dodson (right) captured the mile run to lead the University of Delaware men's indoor track and field team to a fifth place team finish at the John Covert Classic Indoor Track and Field Meet Saturday afternoon at Lehigh University's Rauch Field House.

Dodson, a freshman from Martinsburg, WV (Martinsburg HS), covered the mile in a time of 4:27.28 to become Delaware's lone individual champion on the day. A total of seven schools competed in the full-day event.

The Delaware men placed fifth in the team standings with 50 points. Host and champion Lehigh registered 220, Rider was second with 182.5, Sacred Heart was third with 56.5, Temple was fourth with 56, Delaware was fifth with 50, and Wagner was sixth with 38.

Lehigh also won the women's team title, compiling a total of 203 points to outdistance runner-up Rider with 133 points. Towson was fourth with 85.5 points, Wagner was fifth with 50 points, Delaware was sixth with 28 points, and Temple was seventh with seven points.

In addition to Dodson, the Delaware men posted 11 top 10 finishes. Mike Yost placed third in the weight throw (43-3 1/4) and was seventh in the shot put (44-7 1/2), Matt Arbaugh was fourth in the pole vault (12-6), the 4 x 400 meter relay team placed fourth (3:34.16), and Matt Moore finished fifth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:30.55.

The Delaware women collected eight top 10 finishes led by pole vaulter Reagan Hastings, who took third place with a jump of 9-0. Also for the Hens, Rachel Schultz was fourth in the 400 meters (1:02.70), the 4 x 800-meter relay team was fourth (10:22.55), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team was fifth (4:38.92).
