UNIVERSITY PARK, PA -- University of Delaware junior Brad Dodson set a new school record in the one mile event to headline a group of six Delaware athletes competing at the Penn State Indoor Track National in State College on Friday and Saturday.
Dodson’s mile time of 4:09.93 breaks the previous mark of 4:11.94 set by John Brannon in 1994. He finished ninth overall in the competition, which was won by Pittsburgh’s Sam Bair in a time of 4:00.14. Will Jurkowski and Jared Wasser took 10th place in their respective events. Jurkowski ran the 800 meters in a time 1:54.20 while Wasser posted a throw of 50 feet, 2.50 inches to place 10th in the shot put. P.J. Meany placed 27th in the 5k run with a time of 15:19.67.
On the women’s side, Colleen O’Brien and Rachel Young each placed 23rd in their events. O’Brien ran 23rd in the 5k in a time of 18:17.46, while Young finished 23rd in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 4.2 inches.
The rest of the Blue Hen track teams competed in the Jack Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh over the weekend, and will return to action next Friday and Saturday in the Collegiate Invitational at the New York City Armory.
