Dodson Places Third in Mile to Lead Delaware at Maryland Indoor Invitational

LANDOVER, MD -- Brad Dodson (at right) picked up two top 10 finishes and Kelli McDonald and Colleen O’Brien each posted third place finishes to lead the University of Delaware men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams at the Maryland Indoor Track Invitational Saturday at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Center.

The Delaware men posted five top 10 finishes while the Blue Hen women had six top 10 finishes, including a second place finish in the distance medley relay in a time of 12:34.35.

Dodson (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) was the men’s top finisher as he placed third in the mile with a time of 4:17.52 and followed with a ninth place finish in the 800 meters with a clocking of 1:57.41. Also for the Hens, Will Jurkowski (North Salem/North Salem, NY) was fifth in the 800 meters (1:56.94), Kyle Casella (Bishop Eustace/Lindenwold, NJ) was sixth in the weight throw (48-2 1/2) and 14th in the shot put (43-10 3/4) and Doug Alpers (Sparta/Sparta, NJ) finished sixth in the shot put (46-5 1/2).

The Hens also placed three pole vaulters in the top 13 as Matt Arbaugh was 11th (13-9 1/4) and Dave DiVirgilio and Chris Martens tied for 12th (13-3 1/2) and Andrew Lynch posted two top 20 finishes, placing 12th in the shot put (44-2) and 17th in the weight throw (39 1/4).

McDonald, a freshman from Phoenixville, PA (Phoenixville HS) who already has captured two pole vault titles this season, led the Blue Hens again as she placed fourth in the event with a leap of 10-10. O’Brien (North Hunterdon/Lebanon, NJ) was also fourth in the 3,000 meters (10:26.59), Rachel Young (Sparta/Sparta, NJ) was eighth in the shot put (40-7 1/2) and ninth in the weight throw (44-0), and Amy Miller (Cresskill/Cresskill, NJ) was eighth in the pole vault (9-10).
