DiNozzi Breaks Own Pole Vault Record to Lead Blue Hens

 

LEWISBURG, PA -- Sophomore Jon DiNozzi (Fox Lane/Bedford, NY) set a school record for the second time this season by winning the pole vault and Melissa Calvanico Tottenville/Staten Island, NY) captured the women's shot put to lead the University of Delaware at the Bucknell Indoor Track and Field Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The Delaware men placed fourth in the seven-team men's field with 67 points. Host Bucknell won the meet with 212 points followed by St. Francis (109) and Towson (70). The Blue Hen women also placed fourth out of seven teams with 71 points, trailing champion Bucknell (199), Temple (120), and St. Francis (72).

DiNozzi, a first-year transfer from George Mason, was the UD men's lone winner as he broke his own school record with a jump of 16-0 in the pole vault, surpassing his record set two weeks ago by three inches.

Also for the Delaware men, Jamin Elliott (Churchland/Portsmouth, VA) was second in the triple jump (47-3 1/2) and sixth in the 55 meters (6.72), Pat Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) was second in the 3,000 meters (8:53.19), and Sam Yarrington (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, PA) was second in the 35 lb. weight throw (55-1 1/2).

Placing third for the Blue Hens were Pat Boettcher (William Penn/New Castle, DE) in the 800 meters (1:59.31) and Ricardo Walker (Morrow/Englewood, NJ) in the 55 meters (6.59) and 200 meters (22.92) while Mike Sadowsky (Concord/Wilmington, DE) placed fourth in the 5,000 meters (15:30.67).

On the women's side, Calvanico captured the shot put with a toss of 39-8 1/2 and also placed eighth in the 20 lb. weight throw (38-1 1/4). Also for the Hens, Dana Kolesar (Upper Merion/King of Prussia, PA) was second in the 3,000 meters (10:59.31), Carol Oliveri (St. Rose/Brick, NJ) was second in the pole vault (10-10), breaking her own school record by four inches, Jennie Chiller (Sharon, MA HS) was second in the 20 lb. weight throw (46-6 3/4), Laura Dietrich (Northeastern/York, PA) was third in the triple jump (35 1/2), Diethra Seymour (A.I. duPont/Hockessin, DE) was third in the 20 lb. weight throw (44-9 1/2), and Karen Reber (Pottsgrove/Pottstown, PA) was third in the 1,000 meters (10:22.74).
