Quigley Leads University of Delaware at Boston U.
Terrier Track Invitational

BOSTON -- University of Delaware junior Joe Quigley placed third in the 1,000 meter run and ran a leg on the school-record setting distance medley relay team to lead the Blue Hens at the Boston University Terrier Indoor Track and Field Classic Sunday at the Boston Armory.

Quigley (William Penn HS) placed third overall in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:29.85 and teamed with seniors Troy Bockius (Dover HS), Brian Demlein (Christian Bros./DeWitt, NY), and Mike DiGennaro (Hamilton-Wenham/Essex, MA) to place 10th overall in the distance medley relay in a time of 10:05.35. That time broke the school record of 10:07.33 set by Rob Rainey, Bill McQuillen, Tom Rogers, and Paul Olivere in 1986.

The Blue Hens also placed third in the 4 x 800 meter relay as the team of senior Mark Coyle (East/West Chester, PA), Bockius, sophomore Steve Greeley (Wissahickon/Ambler, PA), and freshman Pat Boettcher (William Penn HS) ran to a time of 7:52.58.

Individually, DiGennaro also placed 26th in the seeded 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:27.23 while senior Robb Munro (Sidney Central/Sidney, NY) placed seventh in the unseeded 3,000 meters in 8:47.21; Demlein was 14th in the 500 meters (1:07.08); and freshman Asher Ailey (West Windsor-Plainsboro/Plainsboro, NJ) ran to a time of 6.86 in the 55 meters and 22.86 in the 200 meters but did not qualify for the finals in either event.

The Delaware indoor track team will host its fourth Delaware Invitational of the season this weekend, Feb. 5-6 at Delaware Field House.
