NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware athletes captured nine first place finishes at the Delaware Men's Indoor Track and Field Invitational Friday night at Delaware Field House. Delaware dominated the seven-team, non-scoring meet, the last of five invitationals hosted by the Blue Hens this winter. The Blue Hens' next action will be next Saturday where Delaware will be the defending champions at the America East Championships at Boston University. Delaware captured nine first on Friday, more than any other team competing. Winning for the Blue Hens were freshman Pat Boettcher (William Penn HS) in the 500 meters (1:07.10); senior Troy Bockius (Dover HS) in the 1,000 meters (2:31.3); Paul Visentin (Manhasset/Manhasset, NY) in the mile (4:22.04); John Marino (Iona Prep/Yonkers, NY) in the 60 meter hurdles (8.83); the 4 x 400 Meter Relay (3:27.18); junior Mike Hendrickson (Seaford HS) in the pole vault (14-3 1/4); Ian Bass (St. Joseph's/St. Croix, VI) in the long jump (21-5 1/4); Eric Sands (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock, PA) in the shot put (49-10); and Sam Yarrington (Panther Valley/Sewickley, PA) in the weight throw (52-1 3/4). Other race winners were Sherron Peacock of Lincoln in the 60 meters (7.12), Lincoln's Darnell Johnson in the 200 meters (22.49), Lincoln's Winger Damier in the 400 meters (51.23), Navy's Doug Kay in the 800 meters (1:57.18), LaSalle's Kyle Norris in the 3,000 meters (8:55.80), Delaware State's Danerian McCants in the high jump (6-11), and Lincoln's Justin Jarmon in the triple jump (46-6 1/4). Placing second for the Blue Hens were Asher Ailey (West Windsor/Plainsboro, NJ) in the 400 meters (51.24); Steve Greeley (Wissahickon/Ambler, PA) in the 500 meters (1:07.92); Mark Coyle (East/West Chester, PA) in the 1,000 meters (2:32.07); Erik App (Methacton/Collegeville, PA) in the pole vault (12-9 1/2); Chris Miller (Salesianum HS) in the long jump (20-5 1/4); and Tom Marando (St. Mark's HS) in the shot put (49-5 3/4).
