Marando Takes 5th Place in Shot Put for UD Men

PRINCETON, NJ -- Annemarie Quinn won the high jump and Carol Oliveri matched the school pole vault record with a third place finish to highlight University of Delaware performances at the Princeton Indoor Track and Field Invitational Sunday at Jadwin Gymnasium.

Quinn (Strath-Haven/Wallingford, PA) won her third individual high jump title of the season as she leaped to a height of 5-8 1/2 to win by two inches over runner-up Shawneequa Collier of Princeton.

Oliveri (St. Rose/Brick, NJ), who already holds the Delaware outdoor pole vault record, matched the school indoor record with a leap of 10-0 to place third overall. She tied the record of 10-0 set by Ashley Forlini last season.

Also for the Blue Hen women, Melissa Calvanico (Tottenville/Staten Island, NY) was sixth in the shot put with a toss of 38-2 1/4 and the distance medley relay team placed second overall with a time of 12:10.41.

The Blue Hen men had just one competitor at the meet with senior Tom Marando (St. Mark's HS) placing fifth overall in the shot put with a throw of 50-4.

Both Delaware teams will continue action next Saturday when they host the Delaware Invitational at Delaware Field House.
