 Riley's Second-Place Finish Paces Hens' to Team Title

TOWSON, MD -- Pat Riley finished second to lead a pack of Universityo f Delaware runners in the Top 10 to pace the Blue Hens to a first-place finish at the Towson Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

The women's team finished second behind host Towson University despite the Blue Hens' Erin Gemmill capturing individual championship.

Riley, a senior from Newark, DE and product of St. Mark's HS, finished the five-mile course in 27:04, nine seconds behind individual champion Nick Peters of Coppin State.

Riley, however, led a Delaware group that placed four runners in the Top five and six in the Top 10. Pat Boettcher finished third in 27:24, followed by Carl Kinney in fourth, Mike Sadowsky in fifth, Matt Harrell in ninth and Kevin DuPrey in 10th.

It was the ninth time in the last 10 meets that Riley has been Delaware's top runner dating back to last season.

The Blue Hens won the team title with a total of 23 points. Coppin State was second with 66.

In the women's race, Gemmill, a native of Lancaster, PA (Penn Manor HS) won the race with a time of 19:30. However, Towson placed seven runners in the Top 10 to take the team title with a total of 21 points. Delaware finished with 41 points as Kate Klim and Sarah Bochet also finished in the Top 10 for Delaware.
