Sept. 26, 2003 Riley 17th, Gemmill 25th in National Race CARY, NC -- Patrick Riley finished 17th and Erin Gemmill 25th in their respective races to pace the University of Delaware cross country teams at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, NC on Friday. The Blue Hen women finished 15th out of 18 teams while the men placed 16th out of 22 teams. Riley led the Delaware men for the 18th consecutive race. After winning the first two races of the season, Riley completed the 8-kilometer course in 26:16. Travis Laird of Northern Arizona won the race in a time of 25:33.9. Kevin DuPrey was the UD men's second finish with a 91st place finish in a time of 27:46.3. Gemmill led the Delaware women for the 11th consecutive race. She completed the 5-kilometer course in a time of 20:00. South Carolina's Jenny Lake won the race with a time of 18:29.9, a full 20 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Kate Klim was Delaware's No. 2 finisher in 61st place with a time of 20:56.1. A "B" race was also held for both the men and women. The Delaware men placed sixth out of 10 teams led by top finisher Patrick Wilcox who wsa 41st in a time of 28:47.1 in the 8,000-meter race. The UD women placed sixth out of seven teams led by Renee Gresh who was 67th with a time of 21:42.2 over the 5,000-meter course. Next weekend the teams will compete at the George Mason Invitational.
