 Blue Hens Win Fourth Team Title of Fall; Riley Leads Way in Fifth Place

 

CENTREVILLE, VA -- Erin Gemmill (Penn Manor/Millersville, PA) won her third individual title of the season and the Blue Hen men captured their fourth team title of the fall to highlight the day at the George Mason Cross Country Invitational Saturday at Bull Run Regional Park.

Gemmill, a transfer from Lehigh who won the Towson Invitational and Delaware Invitational earlier this season, was a winner again for the Blue Hen women as she covered the 6,000 meter course in a time of 23:27.46 to place first and edge runner-up Emily Doland of Radford by 15 seconds.

The Delaware men, led by a fifth place finish from Pat Riley (27:0426) and a sixth place finish from Dave Finneran (27:30.33), won its fourth team title of the season with 34 points to easily outdistance Radford (72) in the eight-team field. Virginia Commonwealth was third followed by Mt. St. Mary's, Howard, George Mason, Hofstra, and UNC Wilmington. VCU's Pius Stucki won the 8,000-meter race in 26:06.50.

In the women's team standings, Mt. St. Mary's took top honors with 54 points while Delaware was second with 87 points in the eight-team field. Howard was third followed by Virginia Commonwealth, George Mason, Hofstra, Radford, and UNC Wilmington.

The Delaware women posted five top 30 finishes to earn a second place finish. Kate Klim was 16th overall (24:49.48), Sari Weissbard placed 18th (25:00.54), Jennifer Kutney was 25th (25:27.02), Sarah Bochet was 27th (25:38.69), and Allison Behrle was 28th (25:41.07).

In addition to Riley and Finneran, the Delaware men had seven other top 30 finishes as Carl Kinney was seventh (27:39.14), Kevin Duprey was ninth (27:43.49), Matt Harrell was 13th (27:50.86), Pat Boettcher was 13th (27:52.82), Mike Manlove was 19th (28:24.68), Mike Sadowsky was 23rd (28:33.61), and Matt Bryden was 28th (28:55.30).

Both Blue Hen teams will take next week off before returning to action Oct. 19 at the Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark.
