RICHMOND, VA --- University of Delaware senior Kyle Schmid (at right) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Male Runner of the Week for his performance for the period ending Sept. 17.
Schmid, a senior from Lutherville, MD (Towson High School), led the Blue Hen men’s cross country team to a second place team finish as UD hosted the annual Delaware Invitational #1 at White Clay Creek State Park Saturday morning.
Schmid was the Blue Hens’ top finisher and placed third overall as he covered the eight kilometer course in 26:23, just one second behind the first and second place runners. Delaware’s team score of 38 points was just seven behind overall team winner University of Pennsylvania.
The award was the second CAA Runner of the Week citation for Schmid during his career. He was named the CAA Runner of the Week exactly a year ago on Sept. 19, 2006 for his first place finish at the Delaware Invitational meet.
Schmid placed fourth at the season opening Towson Invitational Sept. 8. The Delaware cross country team will be off this week in preparation for its next competition Sept. 28 at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh.
Also honored by the CAA this week was Female Runner of the Week Rachel Hannah of Georgia State. Hannah captured the Georgia State Invitational Saturday in Atlanta.
