 NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware cross country head coaches Jim Fischer and Sue McGrath-Powell have announced their schedules for the upcoming fall season.
The Blue Hens will take part in eight meetings during the season with the men and women participating in the same events each week. Two of the events will be home meets at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark. Times of the events are still to be determined.
Delaware will open the 2007 season Sept. 8 at the Towson (MD) University Invitational at Oregon Ridge (MD) Park followed by the Delaware Invitational #1 on Sept. 15 and the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University on Sept. 28. The Hens will also compete in a meet yet to be determined on Sept. 29.
The second half of the schedule gets underway with the Blue Hens hosting the Delaware Invitational on Oct. 13 followed by the annual Colonial Athletic Association Championships Oct. 26 hosted by Hofstra University at Bethpage (NY) State Park Course. The NCAA District 2 Regionals will be held Nov. 10 at Lehigh followed by the ECAC/IC4A Championships Nov. 17 at Van Cortlandt State Park in New York City.
The Blue Hen women placed fourth at the CAA Championships while the Delaware men finished seventh. Among the top returning runners for the teams are P.J Meany and Kyle Schmid (at right) for the men and Julia Somers, Christina Antonopoulos, Ioanna Antonopoulos, and Brooke Maguire for the women.
Meany placed eighth at the CAA meet in 2005 before being sidelined by injuries for most of last year, Schmid placed 20th at last year’s CAA meet, Somers was the UD women’s top finisher with a 10th place finish while Christina Antonopoulos, Maguire, and Ioanna Antonopoulos placed 20th, 26th, and 35th respectively at last year’s CAA meet held at Delaware.
