RICHMOND, VA --- For the second straight week, a University of Delaware men’s cross country runner has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Runner of the Week.

Delaware senior Kyle Schmid (at right), a native of Lutherville, MD (Towson High School), was named the league’s runner of the week following his first place finish at the Delaware Invitational hosted by the Blue Hens at White Clay Creek State Park Saturday morning.

Last week, Delaware senior P.J. Meany (Salesianum/Hockessin, DE) was named the CAA Runner of the Week after capturing the individual title at the Hofstra Invitational. Towson’s Britta Nelson, who won the women’s side of the Delaware Invitational, was this week’s CAA Women’s Runner of the Week.

Schmid led the Blue Hen harriers to a meet team championship for the second straight week as Delaware had the first seven finishers to earn 15 points, easily outdistancing runner-up George Mason with 78 points. The Blue Hens also captured the Hofstra Invitational team title last Saturday.

Schmid captured his first career meet title as he covered the eight-kilometer course in 26:12.98, easily defeating Meany (26:59.06) by a full 47 seconds. Delaware’s Tyler Mayforth was third in 27:03.64 followed by teammates Gregg Cantwell (27:10.07) and Chris Bourke (27;19.43). Delaware’s Mike Zeberkiewicz also placed seventh with a time of 27:22.77.

At Hofstra last week, Schmid place second overall behind Meany. At the CAA championships last season, Schmid placed 38th overall.
