RICHMOND, VA --- University of Delaware senior men’s cross country runner P.J. Meany has been named the first weekly Colonial Athletic Association cross country runner of the week.
Meany (at right), a senior from Hockessin, DE (Salesianum School), led the Blue Hen men’s cross country squad to a first place team finish at the season-opening Hofstra Invitational Saturday at Bethpage Golf Course. He also won the award last season.
Meany, an All-CAA and All-District selection a year ago, was the individual winner of the race as he covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 15:24.86, three seconds better than teammate and runner-up Kyle Schmid. Delaware runners captured each of the top 10 places in the race.
A three-year standout, Meany has now won six career meet titles. He placed eighth at the CAA championships a year ago and 12th at the NCAA District 2 meet.
Also earning notice from the CAA this week were men’s Rookie of the Week Ben Massam of William and Mary, women’s Runner of the Week Kaitlin Hurley of William and Mary, and women’s Rookie of the Week Michelle Donadio of Towson.
Both University of Delaware men’s and women’s cross country squads will host the annual Delaware Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 16, at White Clay Creek State Park. The men’s race begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the women’s race at 11:10 a.m.
