PJ Meany Named CAA Men's Cross Country

RICHMOND,
VA --- University of Delaware sophomore
PJ Meany has been named the Colonial
Athletic Association Men's Cross Country
Runner of the Week the period ending Sept.
12, the league announced
Wednesday.
Meany,
who took first place honors at the
season-opening Towson Invitational on
Saturday, was honored along with William
& Mary's Julie Cathcart and Hofstra's
Shannon Semski, who shared CAA Women's
Cross Country Runner of the Week
honors.
This
was the first weekly cross country honors
announced by the CAA, which also selects
athletes of the week in field hockey,
volleyball, and men's and women's
soccer.
Meany,
a sophomore from Hockessin, DE
(Salesianum), enjoyed an outstanding 2004
debut Saturday at Towson, MD as he led
Delaware to a second place team finish,
just one point behind team champion Navy.
Meany bested 133 other runners, covering
the five-mile Oregon Ridge Park course in
26 minutes and 26 seconds.
As
a freshman in 2003, Meany placed in the
top 10 in four events during the season
and was 36th overall at the Colonial
Athletic Association championship meet.
Delaware
will host the annual Delaware Invitational
this Saturday, Sept. 18 at White Clay
Creek State Park in Newark. The men's race
will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by the
women's race at 11:10 a.m. In addition to
Delaware, also expected to compete are
Delaware State, Hofstra, Lincoln,
Pennsylvania, Rochester, Richard Stockton
State, and Wilmington College.
