Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior Mike DiGennaro set a new University of Delaware men's cross country record in the five-mile run with a time of 24:57 to finish 22nd overall at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday morning at the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course.

Delaware placed 24th overall out of 31 teams in the team standings with 654 points. Providence won the team title followed by Wisconsin, Brigham Young, Arizona, and Colorado State. Providence standout Kevin Kelly won the race in a time of 24:12.

DiGennaro (Hamilton-Wenham/Essex, MA) , who led the Blue Hens for the second straight meet, covered the eight kilometer course in 24:57 to lead the Blue Hens.

Also for Delaware, Pat Riley (St. Mark's HS) placed 107th in 25:51, Robb Munro (Central/Sidney, NY) was 173rd in 26:45, Pat Boettcher (William Penn HS) was 174th in 26:47, and Mike Swierzbinski (Caesar Rodney HS) was 178th in 26:57.

The meet featured nine Top 20 ranked teams in NCAA Division I, including 14th-ranked Providence.

Delaware will travel to the George Washington Invitational this Friday in Washington, DC.
