January 3, 1999 University of Delaware junior forward Mike Pegues had his second straight 30-point effort as he led the Blue Hens to a 80-57 America East men's basketball victory over Northeastern Sunday at the Bob Carpenter Center. Pegues, the nation's second leading scorer (25.3 ppg) who was coming off a career-high 35 point effort last Sunday vs. Virginia, erupted for 21 of his 30 points in the second half points as the Blue Hens (9-2, 2-0 America East) snapped a two-game losing streak and won their 13th straight home game. Junior guard John Gordon added 13 points and senior center John Bennett had 10 rebounds and six blocks for the Blue Hens. Northeastern (4-6, 1-1), which was playing without second leading scorer, senior guard Harold Miller, dropped its second straight. Junior center Changa Adams scored a career-high 12 points and Jean Bain and Lin Lattimore each added 11 points for the Huskies. Delaware built a 41-26 halftime lead to a 20-point cushion early in the second half before the Huskies rallied back, cutting the lead to nine points at 62-53 on a Lattimore jumper with 6:54 left to play. But Delaware followed with a 13-0 run, highlighted by a fast break dunk by Pegues, to take a 75-53 lead into the final minute.
