NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware junior forward Brian Young (at right) will be out indefinitely after undergoing emergency surgery for acute compartment syndrome in his upper left arm over the weekend.
Young, who sat out the 2006-07 season after transferring from Lafayette, had surgery Saturday night after participating in the Blue Hens’ practice earlier in the day. No timetable has been set for his return.
Young, a native of Cherry Hill, NJ, enrolled at Lafayette in the fall of 2005 but missed the entire season after undergoing open heart surgery prior to his freshman year. He then transferred to Delaware during the summer of 2006.
“Whenever you have a situation like this, basketball takes a back seat,” Delaware second year head coach Monté Ross said. “We wish Brian the best, and our prayers are with him and his family. We will stay with him throughout his hopefully speedy recovery and look forward to him rejoining our team.”
Young’s injury is the same one suffered by then Blue Hen assistant coach Ryan Iversen, who suffered acute compartment syndrome in his leg last December.
