 NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men’s basketball team will travel to Toledo of the Mid-American Conference on Saturday, February 23 as part of the O’Reilly ESPNU BracketBusters.
The game will take place at Savage Hall in Toledo. The game time has not yet been set.
The contest will be Delaware’s third in the event, which began in 2003 and this season features 100 teams from 16 conferences. Fourteen games will be televised on the ESPN networks on February 22 and 23, with the remaining 36 games on February 23. The Delaware-Toledo game will not be televised.
Toledo is currently 7-13 overalll and is tied for second place in the MAC West Division with a 4-4 conference record. The Rockets are led by Tyrone Kent, who is averaging 17.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Jonathan Amos is the Rockets’ second leading scorer at 12.3 points per game, while Jerrah Young is averaging 9.1 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds per contest. The Rockets have faced three Colonial Athletic Association teams this season, falling at Old Dominion, 66-35,and at UNC Wilmington, 65-61, and defeating Drexel, 57-44.
Delaware, which is 9-12 overall and 6-5 in the CAA, has faced one MAC team this season, as the Blue Hens fell at Ohio University, 79-58, on December 8. The Blue Hens are led by Marc Egerson, who is averaging 13.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while Herb Courtney (at right) is averaging 13.5 points and 5.9 boards per contest.
Toledo is 6-0 all-time against Delaware, including an 81-58 victory in the San Juan Shootout on December 21, 2004 in the teams’ last meeting.
As part of the BracketBusters contract, Toledo will face the Blue Hens at the Bob Carpenter Center during the 2007-08 season.
