NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware men’s basketball assistant coach Ryan Iversen (at right) will resign his position in early May to return to his native Minnesota.

Iversen, a native of Eden Prairie, MN and a 2003 graduate of Delaware, recently completed his second season as assistant coach on the Blue Hen staff. He missed most of the 2006-07 season after suffering a case of acute compartment syndrome on December 26, 2006 which required three surgeries.

Iversen was a three-year standout for the Blue Hens from 2000-2003 after transferring from the University of Minnesota, averaging 9.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 88 career games. His 506 career rebounds rank 26th in Delaware history and are the most ever by a Blue Hen guard, while he is 17th with 231 career assists and 39th with 835 career points. Iversen also ranks seventh all-time at Delaware with 150 steals, 10th with 324 three-pointers attempted, and 14th with 109 three-pointers made.

As a sophomore Iversen appeared in all 30 games while starting one for the Blue Hens, who went 20-10 and advanced to the America East Tournament Championship. He averaged 9.2 points and 4.7 rebounds, setting a UD rookie record with 46 three-pointers and ranking second on the team in rebounds. In 2001-02 Iversen again appeared in all 30 games while starting five, and became the first guard in Delaware history to lead his team in rebounding with 6.1 boards a game. He also averaged 7.7 points as a junior while ranking second in the Colonial Athletic Association with an 84.5 free throw percentage.

Iversen saw action in all but one game and started two while serving as a co-captain during the 2002-03 season, averaging 11.6 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds while collecting a team-best 52 steals. He also recorded the second triple-double in school history when he posted 12 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 assists against Long Island University on December 1, 2002.

Iversen, 27, graduated from Delaware as an international business major with a concentration in international economics. He played professionally for the Knox Raiders in Melbourne, Australia in 2004, when he was one of the league's leading scorers. Iversen then worked as a sales executive for Colima Development Corporation in Minneapolis, MN before taking the coaching position at Delaware.
