GREENVILLE, NC -- The University of Delaware golf team finished with a team score of 628 as the Blue Hens placed 15th at the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina that concluded Sunday.

Delaware, which shot a 309 on Friday before the tournament was rained out Saturday, improved by 10 strokes by shooting a 299 during the invitational’s final day on Sunday. St. John’s captured the team title with a score of 572, 10 strokes ahead of second place Newberry College at 582. Francis Marion finished third at 583, while Liberty was fourth at 584 and host East Carolina placed fifth at 585.

Blue Hen junior Jeff Griest (at right) shot a two over par 74 on Sunday on the par 72, 7,102-yard Lee Trevino Signature Course as he finished in a tie for 35th place with a five over par score of 75-74-149. Junior Tommy Ellison also shot a 74 on Sunday to finish tied for 43rd place at 76-74-150, six over par.

Freshman Kevin McLister was the Blue Hens’ top performer on Sunday as he shot an even par 72 and finished in a tie for 50th place with a seven over par score of 79-72-151. Junior Steve Boerner shot a 79 Sunday, equaling his score from Friday, as he tied for 77th place at 79-79-158, 14 over par. Senior Britt Murdoch, who shot an 81 on Sunday, finished in a tie for 81st place with a 17 over par score of 80-81-161.

Keegan Bradley of St. John’s (72-66-138) and Ben Lown of Newberry (69-69-138) tied for the individual title as each player finished six under par.

The Blue Hens return to action on Saturday and Sunday when Delaware competes in the Lafayette Spring Invitational.
