ANNAPOLIS, MD -- Joe McLister shot a 73 and Josh Williamowsky (at right) fired a 74 Friday to lead the University of Delaware golf team to a sixth place team finish at the weather-shortened Naval Academy Spring Golf Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course.
The second and final round scheduled for Saturday was canceled due to inclement weather, making Friday’s action the final result. The tournament was Delaware’s final tune-up before the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament April 20-22 at The Homestead Golf Club in Hot Springs, VA.
Delaware shot a team score of 305 (21 over par) Friday to place tied for sixth out of 25 teams in the tournament. The Blue Hens have now finished among the top 10 teams in six straight tournament since the fall.
St. Bonaventure was declared the team winner with a score of 300, edging runner-up Longwood by one stroke. Pennsylvania was third followed by Loyola, Seton Hall, Delaware, George Washington, Bucknell, Navy Gold, Drexel, and Millersville.
McLister led the Blue Hens with a two-over par 73 over the 6,528-yard course to place tied for fourth with Loyola’s Will Shriver. McLister has now led the Blue Hens in eight tournaments this season, including each of the last four. His third place finish was his best this season and marked his best finish since winning the Scotty Duncan Memorial last April. He has now finished in the top 10 in 16 career tournaments.
Also for the Hens, Josh Williamowsky shot a 74 to place sixth, matching his best career finish, Jason Bernstein placed 31st with a score of 77, Jeff Griest was 80th with an 81, and Tommy Ellison was 90th with a score of 82.
Seton Hall Kyle Morris was the individual winner with a two-under par 69.
