HOT SPRINGS, VA -- The University of Delaware golf team shot a 296, 16 over par, on Sunday as the Blue Hens finished in sixth place with a three-day score of 898 at the 2007 Colonial Athletic Association Championship held at the Homestead Golf Course.
Old Dominion won the championship with a 19 over par score of 859, followed by defending champion Georgia State, which finished 23 over par at 863. Virginia Commonwealth finished third at 872, while UNC Wilmington was fourth at 882 and William & Mary placed fifth at 886.
Delaware, which was coming off a fifth place finish last season, its highest since joining the conference, finished sixth this season with a 58 over par score of 898. Towson (900), Drexel (910), James Madison (919), George Mason (923), and Hofstra (932) rounded out the standings.
Freshman Jason Bernstein (at right) shot a four over par 74 on the par 70, 6,679-yard course on Sunday to finish tied for 17th in the individual standings with a three-day score of 74-73-74=221, 11 over par. Senior Joe McLister, who also shot a 74 on Sunday, was tied for 24th place with a 14 over par score of 73-77-74=224.
Senior Josh Williamowsky shot a three over par 73 on Sunday and finished tied for 27th place with a 16 over par score of 71-82-73=226. Sophomore Steve Boerner, who shot a five over par 75 Sunday, was tied for 40h place after shooting a 23 over par 77-81-75=233. Sophomore Tommy Ellison shot a nine over par 79 on Sunday and finished tied for 45th place with a 25 over par score of 80-76-79=235.
John Murphy of Old Dominion was named the Most Outstanding Performer as he won the individual title with an even par score of 69-69-72=210. Joe Sjoholm of Georgia State, Eric Onesi of Old Dominion, Jens Fahrbring of Virginia Commonwealth, and Brent Paladino of William & Mary also earned top honors.
