Delaware 20th After First Day of William & Mary Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- The University of Delaware golf team opened its spring season by shooting a team score of 314 during the first day of the William & Mary Invitational Monday at Kingsmill Golf Club.

The Blue Hens are currently in 20th place out of 21 teams after the first 18 holes. The second and final 18 holes were cancelled due to rain.

Delaware freshman Steve Boerner (at right) was the Hens’ top finisher Monday as he shot a six over par 77 over the 6,831-yard course to place 58th overall. Also for the Hens, Jeff Griest shot 78 for 70th place, Josh Williamosky shot 79 to place 79th, Matt Grobstein shot 80 to place 89th, and Joe McLister shot 83 to place 105th.

Will Shriver of Loyola, Josh Anderson of St. Bonaventure, and Brent Paladino of William & Mary each shot a two-under 69 to take the first-day individual lead.

Liberty placed two players in the top five to take the first day team lead with a score of 292. Maryland was one stroke behind at 293 followed by Villanova, Richmond, Saint Joseph’s, Old Dominion, Navy, James Madison, and George Washington in the top 10.

St. John’s, Loyola, and William & Mary were tied for 11th at 302 followed by Rutgers, Bucknell, Boston College, Dayton, St. Bonaventure, Towson, St. Louis, and Georgetown in 20th. Delaware was 21st with a score of 314 followed by Lehigh in 22nd place at 327.
