DATE: January 18, 2006

NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware men’s golf head coach Mike Keogh has announced the signing of high school standouts Dan Rexon and Jason Bernstein.

Rexon, a native of Haddonfield, NJ (Haddonfield Memorial High School), and Bernstein, a native of Paoli, PA (Conestoga High School), will enroll at Delaware next fall and compete for the Blue Hen golf squad.

“Our program is extremely fortunate to have two players the calibre of Dan and Jason join us,” said Keogh, currently in his fifth season as head coach of the Blue Hens. “Dan is a proven AJGA winner with an impressive national ranking while Jason was named Most Valuable Player for the entire Central League - an area that has produced some outstanding golfers, including tour professional Jay Sigel and one of the University of Delaware’s all-time greats, Oscar Mestre.”

Rexon is currently ranked 26th in the country in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and won the Coresmax/Philadelphia Runner Junior Tournament at French Creek Golf Club in Elverson, PA with scores of 72-71-66=209 this past summer. He also finished fifth at the Delaware AJGA Randall Parker Shootout this past summer at Wild Quail Golf Club with a two-under 70-72-72=214. This past fall he was named a 2005 AJGA Rolex All-American. At Haddonfield High School, Rexon is a National Honor Society student and has earned All-State honors three times. He led his team to the state title in 2004 and to second place finishes in both 2003 and 2005 and individually was second at the state tournament in 2004.

Berntein has enjoyed a standout career at Conestoga High School where hecaptured the District I title in a playoff last fall and led the team to the District I team title. He also won the Central League title, led his team to team title, and was named the Central League Golfer of the Year. He finished third at the Pennsylvania State High School championships and also earned All-Area and All-Main Line honors. He posted three strong finishes in AJGA Tournament play this past summer.

The Blue Hens recently finished their fall season by competing in six tournaments and finishing in the top 10 in four of them, including a fifth place team finish at the Rutgers Invitational and a sixth place finish in the James Madison Invitational. The spring season will begin March 20-21 at the William & Mary Invitational at Kingsmill Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA. The Colonial Athletic Association Championships are set for Apr. 14-16 in Pinehurst, NC.
