McLister Shoots 73, Leads Delaware to Fourth Place at Lafayette Invitational

CENTER VALLEY, PA -- University of Delaware junior Joe McLister fired a one-over par 73 to tie for third individually and lead the Blue Hen men’s golf team to a fourth place finish at the rain-shortened Lafayette Invitational Sunday afternoon at Center Valley Golf Club.

The tournament, originally scheduled to be a 36-hole event over two days was shortened to one round when Saturday’s action was cancelled due to heavy rain in the Lehigh Valley. The course played to, 6916 yards and par 72.

McLister (right), who leads the team in stroke average with a mark of 72.64, led Delaware for the third straight tournament and for the eighth time in 10 events this season. He fired a 72 Sunday to tie for third place. Also for the Hens, Josh Williamowsky and Steve Boerner shot 77 and tied for 25th place, Jeff Griest fired a 78 and was tied for 33rd, and Matt Grobstein came in with an 80 to place 52nd out of over 100 golfers.

McLister, a captain from Leesburg, VA (Loudoun County, maintained his national lead in par 3 scoring. McLister, who played the four par three holes at Center Valley at even par Sunday, entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division I GolfStat rankings in par three scoring average at 2.98.

Siena captured the team title with a score of 300 in the 21-team field, edging runner-up St. Francis (PA) by three strokes, third place St. Bonaventure by five strokes, and fourth place Delaware and Niagara by six strokes. Duquesne and Bucknell were tied for sixth place with Lehigh, Monmouth, and New York University rounding out the top 10.

Drew Ellis of Duquesne won the individual title with a one-under par followed by St. Bonaventure’s Josh Anderson who shot 72. McLister was tied for third with Lehigh’s Alan Borowsky, Siena’s Dan Abbondandolo, and St. Francis’ Nicholas Wheeler.

Delaware will compete at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships April 14-16 at Pinehurst, NC.
