Records Fall as Delaware Golf Places Eighth at James Madison Invitational

HARRISONBURG, VA -- The University of Delaware set four school records in shooting a three-round total of 848 and placing tied for eighth at the James Madison University Golf Invitational held Monday and Tuesday at Lakeview Golf Course.

Delaware shot team scores of 281 and 284 on Monday and 283 on Tuesday to finish with a score of four under par 848 on the par 71, 6,517-yard course. The 281 set a team single round record and the 848 set a three-round tournament record for the Blue Hens.

Individually, Delaware junior Joe McLister placed fourth overall by shooting scores of 70 and 69 on Monday and 67 on Tuesday to finish at 206. His 67 matched a career best and was the second lowest score in school history. His consecutive rounds of 69 and 67 for 136 tied the school record he earlier this season at the Rutgers Invitational and his three-round score of 206 established another school record. McLister, who has led the team in four straight tournaments and in six of the last seven, has now shot 69 or better six times in his career, including five times this season.

George Mason captured the team title with a 16-under par total of 275, two strokes better than Liberty at 277. James Madison and Drexel tied for third at 839 followed by Villanova (841), Belmont Abbey (845), Western Carolina (845), Delaware (848), St. Bonaventure (848), Longwood (852), Cornell (870), and Canisius (880) in the 12-team field.

Delaware’s other four players all shot season-low scores as Tyler Kupper shot rounds of 70, 71, and 71 to finish 20th at 212, Jeff Griest shot 70, 70, and 74 to place 28th at 214, Steve Boerner shot 71, 74, and 74 to place 48th at 219, and J.J. Oakley shot scores of 75, 76, and 71 to place 57th at 222.

George Mason’s Mike Kirby captured the individual title, shooting scores of 66 and 70 on Monday and firing a 10-under par 61 on Tuesday to finish at 197. James Madison’s Jay Lindell was second at 66-69-66=201 while Andrew Turner of Liberty was third at 69-67-66=202.
