Delaware Golf Team, McLister Each Place 13th at Elon Invitational

SUNSET BEACH, NC -- Four of the University of Delaware’s five players
shot 76 or better Sunday as the Blue Hen men’s golf team placed tied for
13th at the Sea Trail Invitational hosted by Elon College Sunday at Sea
Trail Golf Resort.

Junior Joe McLister led the Blue Hens for the third straight tournament
and for the fifth time in the last six outings since last season as he
shot 75 and 69 during Saturday’s rounds and a 71 Sunday to finish tied
for 13th with a 54-hole score of 215 over the 6,761-yard, part 72
course. McLister, Delaware’s top player each of the last two seasons,
has now shot 69 or lower in four of eight rounds this season.

Host Elon captured the team title in the 20-team field with a team score
of 851, 11 strokes better than runner-up Western Carolina. Pfeiffer was
third at 864 followed by Wofford and Radford (874), Murray State (876),
Bethune-Cookman (879)j, Princeton (881), Kennesaw State (883), Columbia
and Longwood (887) in the top 10. Delaware tied with Colonial Athletic
Association foe George Mason for 13th place at 892.

In addition to McLister, Delaware freshman Jeff Griest placed 31st at
221 (74-73-74), junior Tyler Kupper was 53rd at 225 (75-74-76),
sophomore Josh Williamosky was 77th (79-78-75), and freshman Steve
Boerner was 91st at 237 (77-78-82).

Western Carolina’s Matt Cook claimed the individual title as he shot 72
and 68 on Saturday and added a 69 Sunday to finish at 209, two strokes
better than runners-up Bennett Smith of Elon (72-70-69), Stefan
Strandlund of Bethune-Cookman (72-69-70), and Neil O’Brian of Wofford
(69-73-69).
