MIDDLETOWN, DE -- University of Delaware junior Joe McLister (at right) finished off the 2005-06 season in style as he fired a two-under par 69 to capture medalist honors and lead the Blue Hens to the team title at the annual Scotty Duncan Memorial at Back Creek Golf Club.

McLister, an All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, won his third career tournament title and posted his sixth top 10 finish of the season as he led Delaware to a team total of 295 and the team title, five strokes better than two-time defending champion Temple.

McLister shot his seventh round of the year in the 60’s and established a new school record for lowest stroke average in a season at 72.85, shattering the mark of 75.31 by Peter Lovenguth in 1990-91 and besting his own season-best of 75.80 set in 2003-04. McLister also holds the Delaware career scoring average record at 75.00.

The tournament, named in honor of the late UD golf coach and athletics administrator Raymond B. “Scotty” Duncan, was shortened to one round after Saturday’s first round was cancelled due to rain.

Delaware, which won its first Scotty Duncan Memorial title since 2003, posted a team score of 295 as Josh Williamowsky added a 74 to finish eighth, J.J. Oakley fired a 75 to finish 14th, Steve Boerner carded a 77 to place 30th, and Jeff Griest came in at 42nd with a score of 81 over the par 71, 7,014-yard course.

Temple was second with a 299 followed by Monmouth (300), Wesley (301), Delaware B (302), Iona (302), Goldey Beacom (307), Fordham (309), Mt. St. Mary’s (312), Wilmington College (312), and Hampton (313). The tournament featured all four NCAA men’s golf programs in the state in Delaware, Wesley, Wilmington, and Goldey-Beacom.

For the Delaware “B” team, B.J. Jaworski led the way with a 73 to finish sixth, Tyler Kupper and Matt Grobstein tied for 21st at 76, Tommy Ellison carded a 77, and Britt Murdoch shot 80. Delaware Mike Strasburg played as an individual and placed 14th with a 75.

Following McLister, Wesley’s Tyler Smith was second with a 70 while Fordham’s Brian McClure, Temple’s James Boose, and Wesley’s Mike Rushin tied for third place at 72. Michael Tobiason led Goldey-Beacom with a 73 for sixth place while Lorne Shannon paced Wilmington College with a 74 to place eighth.
