Blue Hens Tie for 15th Place at Joe Agee Invitational at William & Mary

NEW KENT, VA -- Sophomore Joe McLister tied for the best score of the tournament for the University of Delaware men's golf team Tuesday afternoon with a three-over par 75 as the Blue Hens placed tied for 15th at the Joe Agee Invitational hosted by the College of William & Mary at Royal New Kent Golf Club.

The Blue Hens shot teams scores of 310 and 308 Monday and 316 on Tuesday to finish at 934 and tie James Madison for 15th place in the 16-team field. Rutgers captured the team championship with a three-round total of 871, six strokes better than host William & Mary. Towson, Boston College, and Georgetown rounded out the top five.

McLister (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County), who led the Blue Hens with a stroke average of 75.80 as a freshman a year ago, fired rounds of 76 and 80 on Monday and 75 on Tuesday over the 6,967-yard course to finish at 231 and tie for 48th place overall.

Also for Delaware, senior Dan Spiker placed 54th (77-76-80=233), freshman Britt Murdoch was 65th (80-77-80=237), freshman Mike Strasburg placed 69th (77-82-81=240), and senior Steve Banks was 87th (83-75-90=248).

Towson's Alex Brueggemann captured medalist honors as he followed scores of 67 and 72 on Monday with a 75 on Tuesday to finish at two under par 214, edging teammate Jeff Castle and William & Mary's Tim Pemberton by one shot. Boston College's Kyle Kelly and Brent Pittman of Rutgers tied for fourth at even par for the tournament.

Delaware will continue action this weekend at the Don Mershon Invitational hosted by Lehigh University at Indian Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA.
