Golfers Place Ninth at Drew Upton Towson
Classic; Spiker 19th Overall for Hens

WESTOVER,
MD -- Senior Dan Spiker
(Poolesville/Poolesville, MD - at right)
recorded his second straight top 20 finish
with a 19th place showing to lead the
University of Delaware golf team to a
ninth place team finish at the Drew Upton
Memorial Golf Classic hosted by Towson
University this weekend at Great Hope Golf
Club.
Spiker
shot a four-over par 76 on Saturday and
carded another 76 on Sunday to lead the
Blue Hens to a team score of 622 and place
ninth in the 19-team field, just one
stroke behind eighth place Army and four
behind seventh place George
Mason.
Loyola
captured the team title with a 36-hole
score of 595 over the par 72, 7,005-yard
course, seven strokes better than host and
runner-up Towson. The Greyhounds were led
by individual medalist T.J. Shuart, who
shot 71 and 73 for an even par
144.
Liberty
was third at 606 followed by Princeton,
Drexel, Rutgers, George Mason, Army,
Delaware, and Cornell in the 19-team
field.
Spiker
was coming off a 12th place finish at the
Goldey-Beacom Invitational March 21. Also
for Delaware at Towson, Joe McLister was
36th with a score of 155 (78-77), Steve
Banks was 41st at 156 (76-80), Tyler
Kupper was 63rd with a score of 161
(79-82), and J.J. Oakley was 79th at 165
(85-80). McLister won medalist honors at
Goldey-Beacom.
Delaware
will compete at the Lafayette Invitational
Apr. 8-9 at Center Valley (PA) Golf Club
in its final tune-up before the Colonial
Athletic Association Championships Apr.
15-17 in Virginia.
