Blue Hens Golfers Place Eighth at McDonald Classic to Wrap Up Fall Season

ABSECON, NJ -- The University of Delaware golf squad closed out its fall season by placing tied for eighth at the John McDonald Classic hosted by Temple University at Galloway National Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.

Delaware shot a team score of 643 over the two-day, 36-hole event, tying Duquesne for eighth place in the 10-team field. Loyola captured the team title with a score of 604 followed by Iona (610), Seton Hall (622), Temple (626), Connecticut (626), Fordham (630), Hofstra (635), Delaware (643), Duquesne (643), and LaSalle (671).

Sophomore captain Joe McLister led all Delaware competitors as he fired rounds of 76 on Monday and 80 Tuesday over the par 71, 6,374-yard course for a 16th place score of 156. McLister led the Blue Hens in three of the six tournaments this fall.

Also for the Hens, freshman Mike Strasburg was 28th (81-80-161), Steve Banks placed 30th (81-81=162), Dan Spiker was 35th (85-79=164), and J.J. Oakley placed 47th (85-87=172).

Jason Parajeckas of Connecticut (72-72=144) and Iona's Paul Selvaggio (76-68=144) each shot 144 with Parajeckas winning the individual crown in a playoff. Loyola's Will Shriver placed third, five shots back at 149.

Top Five Individuals: 1. Jason Parajeckas (Connecticut), 72-72-144 (won in playoff); 2. Paul Selvaggio (Iona), 76-68=144; 3. Will Shriver (Loyola), 73-76=149; 4. Billy Mullen (Temple), 73-77=150; 5. John Pratkanis (Duquesne), 78-72=150.

Delaware Finishers: 16. Joe McLister, 76-80=156; 28. Mike Strasburg, 81-80=161; 30. Steve Banks, 81-81=162, 35. Dan Spiker, 85-79=164; 47. J.J. Oakley, 85-87=172.
