Delaware's 2005-06 recruiting class includes Brian Curtin from Lanoka Harbor, NJ (Lacey Township High School), Tommy Ellison from Bethany Beach, DE (Worcester Prep, MD), Jeffrey Griest from Glen Mills, PA (Westtown Friends School), and Campbell University transfer Stephen Boerner from Bethlehem, PA (Bethlehem Catholic High School).
"We are excited to have these four join our golf program here at Delaware," said Keogh, who will enter his fifth season at the helm of the Blue Hens this fall. "We expect each of them to make a strong contribution to the team this coming season and in the future."
Curtin, who served as class president at Lacey Township High School, was a three-year standout for the golf team and was team Most Valuable Player in both 2004 and 2005. He placed third at the Shore Conference Tournament last month after placing fifth in 2004 and eighth in 2003. He was a two-time All-Shore and all-county selection during his career, competed in the state sectional, and placed sixth in the United States Junior Amateur Qualifier in 2004. He has won five tournament titles during his career.
Griest capped an outstanding scholastic career this past spring by winning his second career Friends League individual championship and led the squad to its third straight league team title. He also won the league tournament in 2003 and tied for second place in 2004. A two-year team captain, he placed third at the Pennsylvania Golf Association Junior Championship in 2004 after placing fourth in the event in 2003. He won the 2004 U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier at Wild Quail Golf Club in Wyoming, DE in 2004 and went on to compete at the U.S. Junior National Championships at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
Ellison was a four-year standout at Worcester Preparatory School in Berlin, MD, earning team Most Valuable Player honors all four seasons as a varsity performer. He captured the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference tournament individual title all four years and won the 2004 United States Golf Association Junior Boys Regional Qualifier. He also competed for the tennis team at Worcester Prep.
Boerner attended Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC the last two years but did not compete for the golf team. He enjoyed an outstanding high school career at Bethlehem Catholic High School where he captured the East Penn Conference Tournament individual title as a junior in 2001 and placed 12th at the PIAA State Championships as a senior in 2002. He also placed second at the Eastern Pennsylvania Amateur in 2001 and was second at the PIAA District qualifying tournament in 2002. He will have sophomore eligibility at Delaware this coming season.
