ANNAPOLIS, MD -- Junior Joe McLister shot a second-day score of 74
Sunday to lead the University of Delaware to an eighth place finish at
the season-opening United States Naval Academy Tournament.
Delaware shot a team score of 302 in Saturday’s first round and matched
that with a 302 Sunday as the Blue Hens placed eighth with a score of
604.
George Mason easily captured the team title with a team score of 578
(293-285), downing runner-ups George Washington and Towson by 17
strokes. Siena was fourth at 597 followed by Winthrop, St. Bonaventure,
and Saint Joseph’s tied for fifth at 602. A total of 15 teams competed
in the tournament.
McLister, who competed in the U.S. Amateur this summer and has led the
Blue Hens in stroke average each of the past two seasons, led the Blue
Hens again as he tied for 18th place, firing a 75 Saturday and 74 Sunday
over the 6,611-yard, par 71 course.
Also for the Hens, sophomore Josh Williamosky was 24th with a score of
150 (77-73), freshman Jeff Griest was 37th at 153 (76-77), junior B.J.
Jaworski was 47th with 154 (76-78), and senior J.J. Oakley was 51st with
a 155 (75-80).
Saint Joseph’s Colin Corrigan was the individual medalist, shooting a
two-day total of 143 (71-72) and outdistancing Steve Alminas of Winthrop
and Bryan Bigley of Siena in an 11-hole playoff.
Delaware will continue its fall season Sept. 16-17 at the Rutgers
University Tournament at Rutgers Country Club in Piscataway, NJ.
