Date: Oct. 21, 2004

NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware men's golf head coach Mike Keogh has announced that sophomore Joe McLister (right) has been selected as captain of the 2004-05 Blue Hen golf squad.

McLister, a native of Leesburg, VA (Loudoun County High School) and a business major at Delaware, enjoyed a standout freshman season for the Blue Hen squad during the 2003-04 season and is off to a strong start this fall.

As a freshman in 2003-04, McLister recorded the team's lowest stroke average with a mark of 75.80 in a team-high 25 rounds, the fourth lowest stroke average in Delaware history and best since Peter Lovenguth recorded an all-time best mark of 75.31 during the 1990-91 season.

He led the team in four tournaments during the season, placing ninth at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational hosted by George Washington Sept. 29, fourth at the Don Mershon Invitational hosted by Lehigh Oct. 12-13, second at the John McDonald Classic hosted by Temple Oct. 27-28, and seventh at the William & Mary Invitational March 22-23. He capped the season by placing fourth at Delaware's Scotty Duncan Memorial Apr. 24-25 and was the team's second top finisher at the Colonial Athletic Association championships with a 30th place finish Apr. 16-18 at Nansemond River (VA) Golf Club. He shot a season-low 71 at the Drew Upton Classic hosted by Towson March 28 at Great Hope Golf Course in Westover, MD.

This fall, McLister ranks third on the squad with a 77.55 stroke average in nine rounds, including a season-low 75 three times. He led the Blue Hens with a 37th place finish at the Navy Fall Invitational Sept. 11-12 and with a 48th place finish at the Joe Agee Invitational hosted by William & Mary Oct. 4-5.

Delaware will close out the fall season Oct. 25-26 at the John McDonald Classic hosted by Temple University at Galloway (NJ) National Golf Club.

While at Loudoun County High School, McLister was a four-year standout for the golf team and played quarterback in football as a freshman. He was a three-year team captain in golf and was a two-time all-district selection.
