Opens Spring Season with 11th Place Finish
at Lexus Invitational

-- The University of Delaware golf
teamed opened its spring season with an
11th place finish at the Lexus
Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Hammock
Bay Country Club.
The
tournament included some of the top teams
in NCAA Division I. St .Mary's College of
California won the team title with a
combined score of 845 - 19 under par - for
the 54 holes. The tournament consisted of
36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday
on the par 72 course.
Delaware,
playing for the first time since Oct.
25-26, shot a team score of 313-317-317
for a score of 947. Baylor was second at
847 followed by Illinois, Marquette,
Wisconsin, Portland, Fresno State, Florida
Gulf Coast, Akron, Eastern Illinois,
Delaware, and Navy in the 12-team field.
The Blue
Hens were led by sophomore Joe McLister,
who shot rounds of 79, 77, and 76 to
finish at 232 to tie for 45th place. Also
for the Hens, J.J. Oakley was 52nd
(79-81-75), Dan Spiker was 55th
(84-79-79=242), Britt Murdoch was 58th
(78-82-87=247), and Mike Strasburg was
60th (83-89-91=263).
St. Mary's
Liam Kendregan was the individual winner
with a 54-hole total of eight-under 208,
one stroke better than Baylor's Jeremy
Alcorn who shot a 209, including a 68 on
Tuesday. Portland's Mike McCabe and
Illinois' Kyle Hosick tied for third at
211 while Fresno State's Ryan Carter and
St. Mary's Joe Lanza tied for fifth at
212.
Delaware
will resume its schedule March 21 at the
Goldey Beacom Invitational at Hartefeld
Golf Club in Avondale, PA.
