McLister Earns Medalist Honors as UD Golfers Capture Goldey-Beacom Invitational

AVONDALE, PA -- Led by individual medalist Joe McLister (right), the University of Delaware "Blue" team shot a score of 306 to take the title at the Goldey Beacom College Golf Invitational Monday afternoon at Hartefeld National Golf Club.

McLister, a sophomore from Leesburg, VA (Loudoun County), shot a three under par 69 over the 6,470-yard course to lead the Blue Hens to the team title in the eight-team field.

Host Goldey-Beacom was second at 310 followed by Delaware Gold (312), Pace, Wilmington College, LeMoyne, Adelphi, and Swarthmore.

Delaware captured its first tournament team title since winning the Army Invitational in October, 2002 while McLister was the first Blue Hen to win a tournament individual title since Dan Spiker won the Scotty Duncan Memorial Apr. 27, 2003 in Middletown, DE.

A total of five Blue Hen golfers placed in the top 10 Monday as Tyler Kupper was third overall with a 72 as a member of the Gold team, B.J. Jaworski tied for fourth with a 77 for the Gold, and J.J. Oakley and Britt Murdoch tied for eighth by shooting 78. Both were members of Delaware's Blue team.

Goldey-Beacom's Mike Tobiason placed second overall with a 70.

Delaware's next action will be Apr. 2-3 at the Towson Invitational at Great Hope Country Club in Westover, MD.
