Delaware in 10th Place After Opening Round of CAA Golf Championships; Williamowsky Fires a 76

HOT SPRINGS, VA -- University of Delaware sophomore Josh Williamowsky (right), playing for just the third time all season, shot a season-low 76 Friday to lead the Blue Hens after the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association Golf Championships at The Cascades Course at The Homestead Resort.

Towson took the first day team lead with a score of 297 over the 6,679-yard, par-70 course while defending champion UNC Wilmington was second at 298. Virginia Commonwealth was third followed by James Madison, George Mason, William & Mary, Old Dominion, Drexel, Hofstra, and Delaware in the 10-team field. The Blue Hens shot a team score of 322, three strokes off eighth place.

Williamowsky, a sophomore from Rockville, MD (Rockville HS/Montgomery CC), was playing just his fourth round of the season but led all Blue Hen players and is currently in 17th place. Sophomore Joe McLister, who leads Delaware with a 76.84 stroke average this season, shot a 79 and is tied for 32nd. Also for the Hens, Steve Banks shot an 82 (39th), Dan Spiker fired an 85 (45th), and Britt Murdoch shot an 86 (47th).

James Madison's Jairo Irreno took the first round lead as he shot a one-under par 69, one stroke better than Mike Kirby of George Mason. UNC Wilmington's Brian Joyce was third at 71 while defending champion Billy Wingerd of Towson was one of three players in fourth place with a score of 73.

The second of three rounds will get underway Saturday at 9:15 a.m.
