Spiker
Reaches Third Straight Top 20 Finish as
Delaware Golf Places Sixth at the
Lafayette Invitational
CENTER
VALLEY, PA (April 9, 2005) -- Senior Dan
Spiker (Poolesville, MD/Poolesville-at
right) shot his third straight top 20
finish by placing in a three-way tie for
No. 15 along with Delaware's Joe McClister
and American's Adam Kolloff, to lead the
University of Delaware golf team to a
sixth place finish at the Lafayette
Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the
Center Valley Golf Club.
Spiker and
McClister each shot nine over par for a
total of 150 as McClister shot a 75 on
both days and Spiker shot 76 on Friday and
74 on Saturday. The Blue Hens finished
with a total of 612 strokes which placed
them sixth in the 22 team field and only
one stroke away from fifth place Robert
Morris.
American
captured the team title with a total score
of 595, which was six strokes ahead of
runner-up St. Bonaventure.
Niagara
and Siena tied for third with 606 followed
by Robert Morris, Delaware, Binghamton,
Bucknell, Lafayette, and Duquesne who
rounded out the top 10 of the 23 team
field.
Siena's
Bryan Bigley captured the individual title
by shooting for par with a total score of
142. Bigley shot 72 on Friday and 70 on
Saturday.
Spiker
came off a 19th place finish at the Drew
Upton Towson Classic and a 12th place
finish at the Goldey Beacom Invitational
while McClister is coming off a 36th place
finish at Towson after being a medalist at
Goldey Beacom. Also for Delaware at Center
Valley, Steve Banks tied for 31st at 155
(79-76), B.J. Jaworski tied for 47th at
158 (78-80), and Tyler Kupper tied for
55th at 159 (78-81).
Delaware
will compete in the Colonial Athletic
Association Championships held in Virginia
on April 15-17.
