Blue Hens Open Spring with 17th
Place Finish; McLister Places

WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- Freshman
Joe McLister shot a three over par 74 on both Monday
and Tuesday to place seventh overall with a score of 148 as
the University of Delaware men's golf team opened the spring
season with a 17th place finish at the William & Mary
Invitational held at the 6,769-yard, par 71 Kingsmill Resort
River Course.
The Blue Hens made their spring debut and
competed for the first time since October. Delaware shot a
team score of 316 in Monday's first round and improved to
311 on Tuesday to finish at 627, one stroke shy of 16th
place. Delaware placed 17th overall in the 20-team field
that included some of the top programs in the East. The
tournament was
McLister, who has now led the Blue Hens
in three of the last four meets, posted his third top 10
finish of the season.
Georgetown won the team title with a
score of 589 followed by Richmond (294-298=592), Old
Dominion (303-299=602), George Washington (303-302=605), and
James Madison (306-300=606) in the 20-team field.
In addition to McLister, Dan
Spiker was 46th (80-76=156), Steve Banks was 73rd
(82-78=160), Devin Milowe was 87th (80-83=163), and
Matt Grobstein was 110th (89-83=172) for the Blue
Hens. A total of 118 players competed.
Navy's Billy Hurley, ranked 31st in NCAA
Division I, captured the individual title by shooting
75-66=141 to win by one shot over Old Dominin's Greg Sampson
(70-72=142). Hurley's score of 66 Tuesday included an eagle
and three birdies.
