Banks Shoots 75, Hens 9th After First Round

SUFFOLK, VA -- The University of Delaware opened play at the Colonial Athletic Association Golf Championships Friday afternoon by shooting a team score of 308 to move into ninth place after the first round.

UNC Wilmington and defending CAA champion Old Dominion each shot a team score of 288 to take the first round team lead in the 10-team event. The tournament is being held at the 7,032-yard, par 72 Nansemond River Golf Club. The second day of the tournament gets underway Saturday morning with the third and final round being held Sunday. The team champion will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals.

James Madison is third with a score of 293 followed by Towson, George Mason, Drexel, William & Mary, Virginia Commonwealth, Delaware, and Hofstra.

Delaware was led by junior Steve Banks (Freehold/Freehold, NJ) who shot a three over par 75 to move into 23rd place overall. Freshman Joe McLister shot 76, sophomore J.J. Oakley carded a 78, junior Chase Miller was at 79, and junior Dan Spiker, the Hens' top finisher in the CAA Tournament each of the last two seasons, shot 81.

James Madison's Jay Woodson led all golfers with a score of 68 to take the individual lead over Old Dominion's Nick Kenney (70) and Greg Sampson (69). UNC Wilmington placed three golfers in the top 10 as all five players shot 75 or better.
