Hoffman's Third Place Finish Helps Hens Place 11th

Mike Hoffman's third place finish was the best by a UD golfer this season

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Sophomore Mike Hoffman shot rounds of 75 and 76 to tie for third place overall and lead the University of Delaware men's golf team to a 11th place finish at the Navy Invitational Sunday at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course.

Hoffman, native of Mt. Prospect, IL (Prospect HS), fired a two-day, 36-hole total of 151 to tie for third place out of 112 golfers. His score of 75 Saturday tied his season low. His finish was the highest by a Blue Hen golfer this season, besting a 20th place performance by Jerry Newell at the Stabler Invitational at Lehigh in October. The Hens' 11th place team finish was the best since placing seventh at Stabler.

University of Minnesota teammates Simon Nash and David Morgan each shot two-round totals of 150 to share individual medalist honors and lead the Golden Gophers to the team title with a score of 605, nine strokes better than runner-up Navy (614).

Princeton was third followed by Iona, Towson, Georgetown, George Washington, American, and Colgate in the 21-team field.

Delaware had a team score of 652 led by Hoffman. Also for the Blue Hens, junior Jacob Korb (Council Rock/Newtown, PA) was 52nd (85-81=166), senior Jason Phinney (Milton/Milton, MA) was 68th (85-85=170), freshman Robert Ellrich (St. Paul's/Timonium, MD) was 73rd (82-89=171), and freshman Matt Marron (Malvern Prep/Exton, PA) was 74th (92-83=175).

Delaware will compete at the Lafafyette Invitational April 13-14 at The Architects Golf Club in Phillipsburg, NJ.
