Scotty Duncan Memorial Tournament

 Korb Places 22nd to Lead UD Golfers in Season Finale

 

MIDDLETOWN, DE -- University of Delaware golf teams placed ninth and 12th overall to close out the Scotty Duncan Memorial Golf Tournament Sunday afternoon at Frog Hollow Golf Club.

The University of Delaware served as host of the annual event which honors the late Scotty Duncan, former UD golf coach and assistant director of athletics.

Delaware's "B" team shot a score of 310 on Sunday to finish at 633 and place ninth in the 12-team field. Delaware's "A" team shot a two-day total of 638 to place 12th overall. The tournament was the final action of the season for the Blue Hens under first year head coach Mike Keogh.

Keogh's son, Marty, was a member of Navy's winning team and also placed 12th with a score of 77-74=151.

Navy, led by individual medalist Nick Rogers, won the team title with a two-day total of 587, including a tournament-best 289 on Sunday. Lehigh was second at 593 followed by Washington & Lee, Villanova, George Washington, Towson, Bucknell, Navy "B", Delaware "B", Drexel, Cornell, and Delaware.

Delaware's top finisher was junior Jacob Korb (Council Rock/Newtown, PA) who tied for 22nd with a two-day total of 155 (78-77).

Other top finishers for the Hens were senior Jason Phinney (Milton/Milton, MA) in 26th ( 77-79=156), freshman Chase Miller (Brandywine/Wilmington, DE) was 29th (79-78=157), freshman Dan Spiker (Poolesville/Poolesville, MD) was 38th (73-86=159), freshman Matt Marron (Malvern/Exton, PA) was 43rd (86-74=160), sophomore Jerry Newell (Salesianum/Wilmington, DE) was 48th (79-83=162), and freshman Jeff Hopper (A.I. duPont/Hockessin, DE) was 48th (80-82=162).

Marron, who had two eagles during the tournament, posted the Hens lowest score Sunday with a 74. Spiker shot a UD best 73 during Saturday's opening round.

Navy's Rogers won the individual title as he shot an ever par 71 Sunday for a 36-hole total of three-over par 144. George Washington's Thomas Blankvoort (72-73=145) and Towson's Josh Upton (75-70-=145) tied for second. Upton's 70 Sunday was the best score by any golfer during the tournament.
