Blue Hens in Seventh Place
After First Day
GLEN ALLEN, VA -- The University
of Delaware found itself in seventh place in the team
standings following the opening round of the Colonial
Athletic Association Golf Championships Friday at The
Crossings Golf Club.
Six-time defending champion Virginia
Commonwealth fired a tournament record nine-under par 279 to
take the first round lead followed by UNC Wilmington (281),
James Madison, William & Mary, Towson, Old Dominion,
Delaware, George Mason, Drexel, and Hofstra.
The second of three rounds will get
underway Saturday at 7:20 a.m. The final round of the
54-hole tournament will be held Sunday.
Delaware, playing in its first season as
CAA members and looking to finish in the top five in its
conference tournament for the 37th straight season, was led
by a pair of newcomers in Jacob Korb and Dan
Spiker who each shot a 75 over the par 72, 6,674-yard
course to tie for 26th place overall.
Also for the Hens, Mike Hoffman
and Jason Phinney each shot 76 to tie for 30th place
while Terry Maguire shot an 82 to place
47th.
VCU's Ted Brown and James Madison's Jay
Woodson each shot a four-under 68 to take the first round
lead. UNC Wilmington had three players each shoot 69 to stay
close to the lead.
