 Maguire Leads Blue Hens; Vanderbilt Wins Team Title

Terry Maguire Led Delaware with a 43rd place finish

ANNAPOLIS, MD -- The University of Delaware men's golf team placed 25th out of 27 teams at the United States Naval Academy Invitational Sunday at the USNA Golf Club.

Delaware shot a two-day, 36-hole team total of 625 to place 25th overall in the field at the 6,611-yard, par 71 course. Vanderbilt won the team title with a score of 574, easily outdistancing runner-up Pennsylvania at 585. Army, George Washington, and Lehigh tied for third with scores of 589 while host Navy placed sixth with a score of 590.

Terry Maguire led the Blue Hens with a 43rd place finish, shooting scores of 76-74=150. Also for the Hens, Mike Hoffman placed 100th at 77-80=157, Jerry Newell (79-80) and Daniel Spiker (78-81) tied for 106th, and Jason Phinney was 122nd with a score of 79-82=161.

Seton Hall's Justin Van Hyning won the overall individual title with a four under par 138 (72-66), downing Navy's Billy Hurley in a one-hole playoff. Army's Ryan Hazelton placed third with a score of 139 (71-68) while Brandt Snedeker of Vanderbilt and Craig Mason of George Mason tied for fourth with scores of 141.

The Blue Hens will continue their fall schedule Sept. 22-23 at the James Madison Invitational.
