WESTOVER, MD -- The University of
Delaware men's golf team placed 11th overall at the Drew
Upton Tiger Classic hosted by Towson University Sunday
afternoon at Great Hope Country Club.
The Blue Hens shot a two-day, 36-hole
total of 310-319=629 to place 11th overall in the 18-team
field. Navy won the team title with a score of 591, beating
runner-up Colgate by eight strokes. Binghamton placed third
overall followed by Army, Duquesne, Towson, and Hartford.
The Blue Hens finished just one shot back of 10th place
Columbia University.
Delaware was led by junior Terry
Maguire (Cornwall/Cornwall, NY) who placed 19th overall,
shooting 74 Saturday and 78 Sunday to finish with a 36-hole
total of 152 over the 7,006-yard, par 72 course.
Also for the Hens, Cory Sheldon
(Newark/Newark, DE) placed 39th with a score of
81-76=157, freshman Mike Hoffman (Prospect/Mt.
Prospect, IL) tied for 39th at 77-80=1587, Jerry
Newell (Salesianum/Wilmington, DE) placed 61st at
78-85=163, and Jason Phinney (Milton/Milton, MA) was
72nd at 81-86=167.
Loyola's Ben Schubert won the individual
title, shooting 70-75=145 and defeating Colgate's Dan
Cappucci and Navy's Drew Craig in a playoff.
The Blue Hens will return to action April
7-8 at the Navy Invitational at Navy Golf Course in
Annapolis, MD.
