Northwood University Invitational

 Sheldon Places 25th as Delaware Finishes 12th in Team Standings

 

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - The University of Delaware men's golf team opened its spring campaign with a 12th place finish at the sixth annual Northwood University Invitational Tuesday at West Palm Beach Country Club.

The Blue Hens shot a team score of 331-328=659 to place 12th overall in the 19-team field. Nova Southeastern won the team title with a score of 622, downing runner-up Flagler on a scorecard tiebreaker.

Delaware's top player, Corey Sheldon, led the Blue Hens again as he shot 81-79=160 to place 25th overall. He led the Blue Hens in all but one tournament during the fall season.

Also for the Hens, Jason Phinney placed 45th with a 83-80=163, Mike Hoffman was 59th with a score of 84-83=167, Terry Maguire placed 93rd with an 88-86=174, and Jerry Newell was 96th with a score of 83-92=175.

Host Northwood's Nick Duffy won the individual medalist award as he carded a 74-75=149 over the two-day, 36-hole event to down teammate Justin Biggs by three strokes.

Delaware will continue action March 26-27 at the Golden Horseshoe Invitational at Williamsburg, VA.
